Course overview

From counting to calculating

In Grade 2, numbers get bigger and strategies get smarter. Students build place value with hands-on materials, picture it with number bonds, then use it to add and subtract two-digit numbers in their heads and on paper.

We introduce multiplication and division through equal groups and fair sharing, and connect every new idea to real life: time, money and measuring the world around us.

Learning goals

  • Read, write and compare numbers to 200 using place value
  • Add and subtract two-digit numbers within 100
  • Understand multiplication as equal groups and division as sharing
  • Measure length in centimetres and metres, and tell time to the quarter hour
  • Solve simple word problems and explain their strategy
